This is from my way back home from the Soo. I decided to stop off for a bit in and around the St. Ignace area, just before the Mackinac Bridge, which has its own share of neat scenes. I had always passed this tourist-y place called Castle Rock but never actually went there. Maybe it qualifies as my first tourist trap, but at 50 cents to get in I hardly think I got scammed. The fact the top of the fence had barbed wire to keep other people from getting in though, that was cute.

Anyways, the place said it was 80 years old and I’m betting that’s how old the steep stairs were as well. All 200 of them. Even though my knees wanted to leave my body by the time I had walked up and down them, the view was more than worth it.

There is a place I used to live called Sault Ste. Marie.  That place is, was, and probably always will be one of the nicest places that I’ve lived.  Back when I did live up there though I missed out on the picture taking opportunities.  I fixed this in an early-July road trip.  Here are the first of the results…

These are from a park in Sault Ste. Marie, looking out across the river toward Canada. The weather gods were not with me at all on this one, but oh well. Some of the pictures might look cold, and they were. It was 45 outside with a wind that made it feel like 35 – 40. This wouldn’t have been as big of a deal if I had, say, packed a hat. I figured it’d be chilly enough to warrant a jacket. Not a hat. Looks like I really hadn’t been there in a while, as I should have known better. Anyhow…

The worst part of my trip to Chicago this spring is that it eventually had to end. A normal person would just hop on the freeway and start the drive. A Jad, however, would decide that it would be a spiffy idea to do battle with some downtown Chicago traffic, find some spot to take pictures at, and have at it for a bit. The results of which can be seen below…

St. Joseph always catches my eye every time I make the trek to Chicago. I never stop there to eat, I always just stop there to go walking up and down the beach for a bit. I’d sure love one of the lakeside homes there, and considering that half of them are in foreclosure, I’m sure they wouldn’t cost much. Still, in a more practical sense I’d probably be better off getting a hotel room there for a weekend or whatever. Who wants to go!?

Anyhow, the original goal here was to get to the beach in time for sunset. That worked. The weather did not. Still took pictures, though.
